Samhain, or Halloween, is the time where the veil between worlds is the thinness. Allowing us access to the dead so that we may honor and help guide them on the journey on the other side. Many will make contact with those who have passed on either as a trance, meditation or ritual. They may be our loved ones, friends or people we have never met before. This is a guide you honor the dead this season.
How to Honor the Dead During the Time of the Dead
With the Time of the Dead upon us, I know many of you may be wondering what to do with your deceased family members. One of the most important things to remember is that your family members are still a part of your life and they will always be a part of your life. No matter what happens, they will always have been a part of your life, even if they are now on the other side.
If you are looking to contact the dead, welcome them to visit you this time of year, or simply send out a greeting, here is a simple spell:
- Light an orange or white candle
- Have an open dialog with the spirits. Discuss what it is that they would like to talk about. If there are questions that need asking do so at this time
-Offer them food as it might be a long journey
-Thank the dead for visiting you and ask that they guide those who are still alive on their journey with love and care.
-When you feel that the visit is over and they have departed, extinguish the candle and end the ritual
I want to also say that this spell is not limited to just Halloween or Samhain. It can be done during Springtime when we honor The Maiden aspect of the Crone/Mother Goddess. During Summer when we honor The Green Man aspect of the Lord. Or during Fall when we honor The Crone/Mother Goddess aspect of the Lord.
Candle magic is also very popular around this time. The use of candles with spells and ritual is something most witches do. Want to learn more about Candle Magick? Check out the Beginners Guide to Candle Magick.
