Energetic Cords: The Golden Threads of Connection

Let’s talk about energetic cords—those unseen threads that connect us to others, to the land, and even to our beloved pets. If you’ve scrolled through TikTok, you’ve probably seen videos on cord cutting. While these often focus on negative cords, the truth is that those make up only a small fraction of the energetic connections we create and carry.

Most of our cords are what I like to call golden cords—the beautiful, nurturing connections that sustain and uplift us. These cords remind us that energy is a two-way street: we give and receive in every interaction, and the quality of those exchanges determines whether we feel energized or drained.

Two Types of Energetic Cords

In my 40+ years of working with energy, I’ve come to see that cords fall into two categories: simple cords and complex cords. Let’s break that down:

Simple Cords

These are the temporary connections we create in our everyday interactions. Think of the barista who hands you your coffee, the stranger who smiles at you on the street, or the co-worker who shares a quick laugh with you. These cords are fleeting and often dissolve on their own.

Complex Cords

These are the deeper, long-lasting connections that bind us to family (both living and passed), close friends, beloved pets, and even the land beneath our feet. Complex cords are rich with energy and history, often stretching across lifetimes. They can be beautiful sources of strength but require care and attention to remain healthy.

The Energy Exchange: Feeding or Draining?

Every cord we have is doing one of two things: feeding us or draining us.

Feeding Cords are those golden connections that energize and sustain us. These include the love of a partner, the loyalty of a pet, or the grounding support of the land you live on. When nurtured, these cords give back to you tenfold.

Draining Cords are the ones that sap your energy. These might come from toxic relationships, unresolved conflicts, or even old wounds that never fully healed. While these are a smaller percentage of our overall cords, they can still weigh us down if not addressed.

How to Be Aware of Your Cords

The first step in managing your energetic cords is simply being aware that they exist. Here are a few ways to tune in:

Grounding Practices

Spend time grounding yourself—whether through meditation, walking barefoot on the earth, or working with grounding stones like black tourmaline. This helps you center your energy and become aware of any cords that may feel out of balance.

Calling Your Energy Back

After a long day, take a moment to close your eyes and visualize your energy returning to you. Imagine golden threads retracting from the places and people you’ve interacted with, filling you up with warmth and vitality.

Spiritual Cleansing

Rituals like spiritual baths, smoke cleansing, or working with cleansing herbs (think rosemary, sage, or eucalyptus) are powerful tools for clearing your energy. These practices help you release what no longer serves you and strengthen the golden cords that sustain you.

Feeding Your Golden Cords

It’s not enough to just clear out the negative cords—we also need to actively nourish the golden ones. Here are some ideas:

For Family and Friends: Take time to connect in meaningful ways. A phone call, a shared meal, or even a simple text saying, “I’m thinking of you” can strengthen these bonds.

For Pets: Pets are some of our most loyal energetic companions. Spend time playing, cuddling, or simply being present with them.

For the Land: Honor the spirits of the land you live on. This could mean tending a garden, leaving offerings of water or food, or simply expressing gratitude for the ground that supports you.

What About Those Draining Cords?

When it comes to draining cords, cord cutting is a powerful practice, but it’s not something to rush into. Start by identifying the source of the drain. Is it a person? A place? An unresolved situation? Once you’ve pinpointed the source, you can take action:

Visualization Ritual: Picture the cord connecting you to the source. Imagine yourself gently severing it with a golden blade or scissors, and then seal your energy with light.

Spell Work: If you’re comfortable with magick, you can incorporate candles, herbs, and chants into a ritual for reclaiming your energy.

Professional Help: If a cord feels particularly stubborn, consider seeking guidance from a trusted spiritual practitioner.

Final Thoughts

The majority of the energetic cords we carry are golden, life-giving connections. In this fast-paced world, it’s more important than ever to feed these cords—strengthening our relationships with family, friends, pets, and the land. And for the rare draining cords, remember: you have the power to cut them and reclaim your energy.

So, take a moment today to ground yourself, call your energy back, and cherish those golden cords. They’re the threads that weave the tapestry of your life, and they deserve your care.

Amen, Blessed Be, Ashe, and Ayibobo.
